Finally!!!

Well yesterday we finally put up a tree and some decorations. Just in time to take them back down. We just used the small tree this year, didn't want to pull out a whole lot of stuff just for a few days. It's kind of pathetic but it's ours lol. The kids aren't complaining...they just want to see some presents under it lol.

Melissa and Dad

A beautiful picture of Melissa and her Father

Be careful what you ask for lol!!

I thought I was ready for a change so I decided to have my hair done. I asked for the color to be a "little" darker and to cut it in long layers. I think she got the haircut right but can't tell for sure because my hair is so dark lol. I did get a change but not quite the one I was looking for! I'm sure I will get used to it and I guess it could have been a lot worse. But be careful what you say to your hairdresser...they apparently have their own vision of what they think you want lol.

We got the scores for my son's SAT test today and he got 1710. I'm very proud to say the least. Just wanted to do a little bragging...

Just Relax

A New Car!!

Well after 11 years I finally got a new car! My old car will be passed down to my son Archer who will get his license next week. This is a smaller car but will meet all my needs. It's an Ice Blue 2008 Hyundai Accent. I love the color and it's very comfortable and has a smooth ride. Best of all it gets very good gas mileage.

"Crazy Neighbors"

Tree in question

Sometimes you are unfortunate to have neighbors who are unfriendly, crazy and everybody in the neighborhood has a problem with them. They have a hot line to "city code compliance" which they use frequently. They have a camera posted in the front of their house to keep track of anybody who steps a foot into their yard. My kids soccer ball went into their yard and they went to get it. The neighbor picked up the ball and said "my yard my ball". My husband had to go and get the ball back. Here is their latest gripe. Yesterday we got a letter from the city saying we were scheduled for a mediation with them. Apparently they are unhappy with something else we have done. The only thing we can figure out is that they are complaining about a tree of ours that has some branches hanging over the property line over their house and driveway. They called code compliance on this before and when they came out they said the tree was fine as long as it didn't touch their house and could not damage it in any way. I guess they want us to cut our tree down, which we planted when we first bought the house 22 years ago. Their argument is that they have to sweep up the leaves that fall off the tree. This is the most childish thing I have ever heard of. So I will take pictures of the tree in question and hope they don't make us cut it down. These people must really be bored. They also put a trash can upside down in the middle of their driveway so people can't use their driveway to turn around. Just be glad you don't live next to people like this!!

Scrapbooking

A while back I said I was going to start scrapbooking. Well I'm still procrastinating on this and haven't started yet. I'm sure once I get started the ideas will start flowing. It's the getting started part that slows me down lol. I have the materials just need to put them to use. So like I said before, hopefully I will have some scrapbook pages to show soon.

Not much going on

It's been awhile since I've posted anything. I thought I'd come out of my secret garden long enough to write a few words. Just hasn't been a lot going on. The kids are back in school and are doing really well. Lissa had a hard time adjusting to high school at first but now she's fine. Archer just wants to get this last year over with which I understand. He's taking his SAT test on October 6th. He is supposed to be studying for it but I don't think he's doing it as much as he should. I just want him to get a good score. We're having a little disagreement on what college he should try to get into. He wants to go to TCU in Ft.Worth and I want him to take his first year in San Antonio. I just don't think he has enough life experience to be in such a big city so far away from home. We'll have to wait and see on that one. Melissa's doing great in soccer and has her sights set on a soccer scholarship to St Mary's University. Of course she could change her mind. She still has 3 years to think about it. So that's about it for now. More to come soon.

Soccer anyone??

Today was a good day for soccer. Lissa had her first scrimmage at Stevens today. She played a great game and scored a goal. She was surprised that a lot of the girls already knew who she was. The coach has been saying a lot of good things about her so everybody was looking forward to meeting her. Getting used to the high school atmosphere has not been easy but today she got a real confidence boost. She was very happy when she got home today.

Now this is luck!!!

The Seine

The Eiffel Tower

I just talked to my brother-in-law and he was telling me about this 9 day cruise they won. They will fly straight through from Houston to Paris. They will stay in Paris for a day and a half. Then they take a seven day cruise down the Seine to the English Channel. Every day they will stop in a different town where an Impressionist artist lived and painted. They get to stay one day at the D-Day beaches in Normandy. Doesn't this sound like the trip of a lifetime?? I'm jealous...j/k. They both work very hard and really deserve this trip. I'm sure I'll have plenty of pictures and stories to show when they return.

Beautiful Corpus beach and sunset

Corpus vacation August 2007

We returned from our summer vacation yesterday. Everyone had a great time, except for the pets who had to be boarded. The beach was great with a light breeze blowing. The ocean water was warm and the waves were pretty strong, for me anyway. They knocked me down more than once. I also fell off a boogy board and every time I tried to stand up a wave would knock me back down. I thought I was going to drown (not really) the water was only waist deep but I did need help getting back on my feet. Just a little entertainment for the people up on the beach. We all had such fun and this was one of the best family vacations we have had.

This is the life!!

Oh to be a dog or a cat. They really have a tough life. Chewy has her backyard haven which she loves. Then Snuggles spends his day just laying around the house being cute. Pets are great stress relievers as well as good company. They will always be there for you .

Just for laughs lol

Forgetfulness means you can watch a movie over and over as if you'd never seen it before.

I cleverly disguise the tiny lines around my eyes with huge wrinkles.

I think I must be wearing a "wonder where they went" bra.

My bra is more of a cross your waist.

It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffee maker.

I'd get a tattoo if I had any skin tight enough to draw on.

It's Fire Prevention Week. If you have a hot flash....stop, drop, and roll.

Walk, don't run!!

The other day I was in the living room using my laptop. Well, the kids were aggravating me (on purpose) so I grabbed my laptop and headed for my bedroom. I swiped the wall on my way and this is what happened to the receiver for my wireless mouse. Of course without the receiver the mouse didn't work. So I had to go and buy a new one for $45.00. I tried to blame it on the kids but they said it wasn't their fault, which it wasn't. So the moral of this story is don't grab your laptop and take off like a bat out of hell lol!!

Miracles

Great day!!

Melissa is having a great day today! It's good to see her happy and back to normal. She still has a sore throat but it doesn't seem to be bothering her. Tomorrow is her last day of flex camp (sports strength training) and she's looking forward to going to youth group on Friday! Now that flex camp is over she'll be able to relax and enjoy the rest of her summer with her friends.
